LOS ANGELES, June 23 — The disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of NBC 'Today' co-host Savannah Guthrie, has drawn national attention as authorities investigate a suspected kidnapping. Law enforcement sources confirmed to CNN that a note sent to media outlets in February indicated that Nancy Guthrie has died.

Nancy, 84, was last seen on the night of January 31 in Tucson, Arizona. Ten days after she was reported missing, the FBI recovered doorbell camera footage from the morning of her disappearance, showing a masked individual armed with a firearm outside her home. This individual has since been identified as a person of interest.

Investigators have examined two letters sent to news organizations after her disappearance. The first letter demanded a cryptocurrency payment in exchange for her release. However, according to sources, the second note claimed that Nancy passed away shortly after the abduction, stating the death was not intentional. The second communication did not contain an apology nor a ransom request for the return of remains.

Savannah Guthrie previously appealed to the public on social media, requesting proof of life. The family has offered a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to her location. Former President Donald Trump also commented on the case in February, stating he had directed federal resources to assist in the search efforts.
