The 2025 annual data report from the performing arts ticketing platform 'OPENTIX' reveals a record-breaking year for Taiwan's arts sector. The 40th Anniversary World Tour of the musical 'Les Misérables,' presented by KHAM Inc., topped the charts with over 40,000 tickets sold.
Following in second place was the 'Studio Ghibli Symphonic Concert II' by Eternal Music, with over 30,000 tickets sold. The third position was held by the play 'Human Condition 4: The Same Moonlight' by Wu Nien-jen, which recorded over 20,000 sales.
The report indicates that total annual box office revenue reached a historical high of NT$2.03 billion, with approximately 2.107 million tickets sold. The number of registered users grew to 364,000.
Notably, 'repeat customers' accounted for over 50% of the audience and contributed to 70% of total box office revenue, serving as a primary driver for market growth. The government’s 'Culture Coin' policy has successfully fostered younger audiences; users aged 13-22 increased to 40,000 (13% of total), a 16% year-over-year growth. Data shows that nearly 50% of these youth members continued to make independent purchases after using the subsidy.
Produced in collaboration with Professor Kao Chu-lan of the National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, the report analyzed domestic market trends over the past three years. It also debunked the long-standing belief that audiences in central and southern Taiwan purchase tickets closer to show dates. Analysis of ticketing curves across Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung shows that audiences in all regions exhibit similar, gradual purchasing patterns rather than waiting until the final week.
