The Yunlin District Prosecutors Office concluded its investigation today into the assault of former legislator Tseng Tsai Mei-tso. A total of 17 suspects, including Tsai Chin-tsai, son of the Beigang Chaotian Temple chairman, have been indicted for disturbing public order and other offenses. Following the indictment, the six individuals previously held in custody were transferred to the district court. The court granted Tsai Chin-tsai release on NT$300,000 bail, while imposing travel restrictions and forbidding him from contacting witnesses.

The court stated that while the prosecutors initially requested detention due to concerns of witness tampering, sufficient evidence has since been secured. Despite Tsai Chin-tsai’s continued denial of involvement, the court determined that continued detention was no longer necessary, though it upheld prohibitions against harassing or contacting witnesses. The other five detained suspects were released on NT$50,000 bail each.

The incident occurred on May 7, following the Beigang Chaotian Temple Mazu pilgrimage on May 5. Dozens of individuals intruded into Tseng Tsai Mei-tso’s residence and assaulted her family. Prosecutors conducted four waves of arrests, detaining over 20 people in total. Investigation findings, based on surveillance footage and corroborating evidence, indicate the conflict arose from a dispute regarding the positioning of a palanquin. Tsai Chin-tsai was identified as the lead instigator who directed the mob to the residence. During the altercation, Tseng Tsai Mei-tso was shoved and suffered a lumbar fracture.
