On June 22, a 60-year-old man, surnamed Huang, was involved in a hit-and-run accident in Su’ao Township, Yilan County. After hitting a parked car while driving under the influence, Huang enlisted an acquaintance, surnamed Han, to falsely claim responsibility for the incident.

During police questioning, officers noticed discrepancies in Han's statement. Further investigation revealed that the suspect vehicle was still in motion in the Nanfang’ao area, contradicting Han's claim that the car was parked at home. Police immediately initiated a pursuit. Upon intercepting the vehicle at Su-dong Middle Road, officers were forced to draw their service weapons and break the driver's side window when Huang refused to comply and attempted to ram the police unit. Huang was subsequently removed from the vehicle and arrested.

A breathalyzer test confirmed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.63 mg/L. Huang has been referred to the Yilan District Prosecutors Office on charges of public endangerment and obstructing official duties, while Han faces potential charges of substitution of the offender. The Su’ao Police Precinct reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward drunk driving to ensure public safety.
