Following reports of yellowish, turbid water in parts of Tainan, the Taiwan Water Corporation (TWC) explained today that the issue stemmed from changes in flow direction and velocity within distribution pipelines due to water supply adjustments. These changes caused minor, settled sediments to be disturbed, leading to temporary turbidity in certain areas. TWC has initiated pipeline flushing operations.

To manage water resources during the transition from the dry season, TWC adjusted the supply ratios between the Wushantou and Nanhua water treatment plants following heavy rainfall in early June. This adjustment altered hydraulic conditions in the network, resulting in the temporary mobilization of sediments. Monitoring data as of June 16 shows that turbidity levels in the East and South Districts remain below 1 NTU, meeting both internal safety standards and national drinking water standards (under 2 NTU).

Regarding reports of household water filter discoloration, TWC noted that filter pores of 1 to 5 microns are designed to trap fine sediments and oxidized iron, including those from private building water towers or internal piping. The Ministry of Economic Affairs has directed TWC to continue strict water quality monitoring and address individual reports to ensure consumer safety. TWC will continue to dispatch personnel to resolve any localized water quality issues reported by residents.
