In a recent CPBL match against the CTBC Brothers on the 19th, Fubon Guardians third baseman Wang Nien-hao made his first career appearance at second base. While the shift occurred during the eighth inning with an 11-3 lead, the transition was part of a planned tactical experiment by the coaching staff.
Wang noted that this was his first time playing the position since childhood, including his amateur career. Head coach Goto Koji had prepared him for this transition in advance, warning him during practice sessions to be ready for an in-game shift. A previous attempt on May 13 was aborted after Wang was hit by a pitch.
Regarding the team's recent strategy of testing players in various defensive positions, Wang commented on teammate Tung Tzu-en’s shift to the outfield, noting that while surprising, the team’s experimental approach reflects an effort to enhance organizational flexibility and player versatility.
