(Central News Agency, reporter Tang Yaling, São Paulo, June 21) The Central and South American Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce Federation conference was held in São Paulo from June 19 to 21. The Ministry of Economic Affairs held a luncheon at the Hilton Hotel on June 20, emphasizing that Taiwan's textile industry, with its innovative technology and environmentally friendly fabrics, is supplying the jerseys for multiple countries in the 2026 World Cup, demonstrating Taiwan's crucial position on the international stage.
Shu Zhihong, Deputy Director of the Economic Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Brazil, delivered a speech on behalf of Minister of Economic Affairs Kung Ming-hsin, stating that Taiwan, with its complete industrial chain, technological innovation capabilities, and flexible corporate adaptability, continues to demonstrate high resilience and competitive advantages. Especially in the fields of semiconductors, high-performance computing, and artificial intelligence, Taiwan has become an indispensable partner in the global supply chain.
He emphasized that this year marks the World Cup, and Taiwan's textile industry has once again become the focus. The jerseys for national teams of multiple countries, including Brazil, are supplied and manufactured by Taiwanese companies, using recycled PET bottle fibers and environmentally friendly fabrics, showcasing Taiwan's leading position in sustainable R&D and high-performance fabrics. Taiwan's textile industry is not only an important partner for international sports brands like Nike, Adidas, and Puma, but also plays the role of an "invisible champion" in major global events.
Shu Zhihong stated that in the face of global supply chain restructuring and the wave of artificial intelligence, the government is actively promoting the "Five Major Trustworthy Industries" and assisting all industries in adopting AI applications to enhance production efficiency and added value. Central and South America, with its abundant natural resources and vast market, presents enormous business opportunities in areas such as energy transition, smart agriculture, and infrastructure, which are highly complementary to Taiwan's industrial strengths.
Shi Yilun, Director of the Taiwan Trade Center in Brazil of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), said that Taiwanese businesses have taken root overseas for many years, demonstrating resilience and becoming important bridges for Taiwanese enterprises to expand into international markets. Through business matchmaking and strategic cooperation, Taiwan's industries not only maintain competitiveness in the technology sector but also continuously enhance their international visibility in areas such as sportswear and the health industry.
Taiwan's success in the 2026 World Cup jersey supply chain once again confirms its strategic position in the global democratic supply chain, allowing the world to see Taiwan's innovation and sustainable power. (Editor: Tian Ruihua) 0621
