Vice President Bi-khim Hsiao visited Hsinchu City on the 19th to attend a parenting event alongside mayoral candidate Chuang Ching-cheng. During the visit, the Vice President interacted with children through handicraft activities and engaged with local parents to understand their concerns regarding temporary childcare and school commuting needs. Candidate Chuang Ching-cheng stated that if elected, his administration would prioritize the development of a comprehensive after-school care and temporary childcare network.
The DPP Hsinchu City Chapter issued a press release noting that Vice President Hsiao participated in the event to listen to parental feedback on daily life challenges. Hsiao remarked that her past experience studying in the United States highlighted the effectiveness of community-based after-school support systems in helping parents balance work and family responsibilities. She advocated for similar, more integrated systems in Hsinchu to provide essential support to working families.
Furthermore, Vice President Hsiao referenced the Executive Yuan’s "0 to 18 Support Program," highlighting that parental leave provisions have been expanded from age 3 to 6 to offer greater flexibility for working parents. Chuang Ching-cheng added that he intends to leverage city government resources to integrate schools, after-school facilities, and private sector services, ensuring that parents can access immediate assistance during irregular working hours or business travel.
