Authorities in Pakistan reported that two roadside bomb explosions occurred today in the volatile northwestern region, resulting in at least 7 deaths and 3 injuries. According to senior police official Yasir Afridi, the incidents took place in Bannu District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which borders Afghanistan. The first bomb targeted a vehicle, and the second detonated as rescue personnel arrived at the scene. Both devices were triggered by remote control.
Afridi stated that the first explosion killed 5 people, while the second resulted in 2 fatalities, with 3 others sustaining injuries. Investigations are ongoing. While no group has claimed responsibility, suspicion remains focused on the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has carried out similar attacks in the past. In recent years, violent militant attacks have surged in Pakistan, with the TTP claiming responsibility for the majority. Although allied with the Afghan Taliban, the TTP operates independently. Pakistani officials have noted that numerous TTP leaders and fighters seek refuge across the border in Afghanistan.
