According to the latest statistics from the Department of Tourism (DOT), the Philippines welcomed over 90,000 Taiwanese tourists from January to May this year, marking a 12% increase compared to the same period last year. Taiwan ranks seventh among the Philippines' top international source markets. Industry experts suggest the visa-free entry pilot program is a contributing factor to this growth.

From January to May 2025, the Philippines recorded a total of 2.52 million foreign tourist arrivals, an increase of 8.34% year-on-year. South Korea remains the largest source market, despite a 9.58% decrease, followed by the United States and Japan.

Taiwan's 93,727 arrivals account for 3.42% of the total foreign market. Monthly data shows February peaked at 27,463 visitors. While the DOT has not provided a formal analysis of the growth drivers, the 14-day visa-free policy for Taiwan, implemented in July last year, is cited by industry players as a significant catalyst. With the policy set to expire at the end of June, inquiries regarding its extension have already begun.

Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay recently highlighted that the government is focusing on enhancing transport connectivity and diversifying tourism products, including MICE, culinary, and wellness tourism, to increase average visitor spending and length of stay.
