Keelung City, June 19 (CNA) — The Keelung City Government is currently investigating allegations that several children were physically abused by a staff member at a local kindergarten, following reports of unexplained bruising on the students. The city's Department of Education confirmed that an investigation is underway and that relevant evidence has been secured. Should the allegations be substantiated, the city will take disciplinary action against both the individual and the institution in accordance with established regulations.
The incident came to light after a parent posted on Facebook, stating that their child displayed a lack of appetite after school and had large bruises on their upper arm. Although the parent initially suspected the injury resulted from play, the child later disclosed that they had been pinched by a teacher for not sleeping during nap time. The parent subsequently took the child for a medical examination.
The Department of Education stated that upon receiving the report yesterday, officials were dispatched to the kindergarten to review surveillance footage and collect evidence. The case is being handled under the "Regulations Governing the Investigation and Handling of Illegal Incidents Involving Early Childhood Education and Care Personnel" and the "Early Childhood Education and Care Act." To ensure the stability of the learning environment, the department has ordered the kindergarten to reassign the staff member in question pending the investigation results.
