Taipei, June 19 (CNA) — As the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday begins, the Directorate General of Highways (DGH) reported that as of 9:00 AM, provincial highways were flowing smoothly. However, motorists are advised to avoid peak congestion expected in the afternoon, particularly on sections of the Danjiang Bridge (Provincial Highway 61), as well as the Wanli to Dawulun and Fulong sections of Provincial Highway 2.

The DGH noted that this holiday will be driven primarily by tourism. Increased traffic is expected around main arterial roads, scenic spots, and locations hosting dragon boat races.

Key areas predicted to experience afternoon congestion include the Danjiang Bridge, the southbound sections from Fengbi to Xiangshan, Zhunan to Xuanbao Bridge, and the reconstruction zone of the Zhongzhang Bridge. Additional congestion is expected on routes connecting to national freeways, such as the Zhonghe Interchange on Highway 64, the Tucheng Interchange on Highway 65, and sections of the 74, 18, 86, and 88 expressways.

Scenic areas expected to see traffic include the Guandu to Tamsui section (Hwys 2 and 2B), the Wanli to Dawulun and Fulong sections (Hwy 2), and the Gukeng to Meishan section (Hwy 3). The DGH recommends using the "Happiness Highway" App or checking their website for real-time traffic updates.

Regarding public transport, the DGH has coordinated with bus operators to ensure sufficient capacity and safety checks. Promotional discounts are available, including a 40% discount on national passenger transport. TPASS 2.0 members can receive further rebates of 15% (for 2-3 trips) or 30% (for 4+ trips), resulting in a cumulative discount of up to 58% off. The public is encouraged to utilize these transport services for holiday travel.
