According to Central News Agency reporter Su Mu-chun in Taichung, on February 13, 2026, at around 1:00 p.m., Qiu, who was serving in Kinmen, returned to Taiwan. By 5:00 p.m. that day, he and his wife, surnamed Chen, returned together to their rented residence in the North District of Taichung City.

On the evening of February 16, 2026, around 10:00 p.m., an argument escalated into a physical fight. During the struggle, Qiu used his right arm to strangle his wife’s neck, causing fatal neck compression and asphyxiation.

Qiu did not report the incident until 11:20 a.m. on February 19. Accompanied by police, he returned to the apartment, where Chen was found lying lifeless in front of the bathroom. After investigation, the Taichung District Prosecutors Office indicted Qiu on suspicion of murder. The case will be heard by the Citizen Judges Division of Taichung District Court.

Qiu and Chen married in August 2023. The incident occurred during Qiu’s temporary return from military service in Kinmen. The prosecution emphasized the severity of the crime and the need for public judicial participation.
