According to reports from Central News Agency reporter Lin Chang-shun in Taipei on the 18th, prosecutors and investigators received tips that Xia, a neighborhood chief in Zhongzheng District, Taipei City, was suspected of fraudulently claiming neighborhood construction and service funds, allegedly violating anti-corruption laws. On the previous day, the Taipei District Prosecutors' Office directed the Investigation Bureau to search Xia's office and residence, and summoned him for questioning.
Authorities received reports that Xia allegedly embezzled tens of thousands of New Taiwan dollars in neighborhood construction service funds between 2016 and 2019 (Republic of China years 105 to 108), suspected of violating the Anti-Corruption Act by using his official position to obtain property.
The Taipei District Prosecutors' Office, directing the Taipei Municipal Investigation Unit of the Ministry of Justice's Investigation Bureau, executed search warrants at two locations—Xia's residence and office—and formally notified him to appear for investigation.
After an overnight interrogation, prosecutors initially ordered Xia to be released on a NT$200,000 bail. However, as Xia failed to secure a guarantor, the bail was reduced to NT$60,000. He has also been restricted from leaving the country or departing by sea.
The case remains under investigation. Further legal actions, including possible indictment, will depend on the outcome of ongoing evidence collection and review.
