The newly constructed floating dock at Jiangjun Fishing Port in Tainan was officially completed and inaugurated today, upgrading fishery infrastructure, ensuring safer operations for fishermen, and preparing for the future 'Tainan-Jiangjun Fishing Port to Penghu-Suocang' Blue Highway route.
Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che presided over the inauguration ceremony today, stating that through comprehensive optimization of dock functions, a disaster-resilient and secure harbor will be created, positioning Jiangjun Fishing Port as a modern gateway for island-hopping tourism and driving industrial and tourism prosperity along the coastal region.
Huang emphasized that the city government will reference the successful model of Anping Yacht Harbor to gradually improve supporting facilities, including opening mooring services for yachts and diversifying marine leisure offerings. In the future, with the launch of the passenger vessel 'Golden Peng Star' on the 'Jiangjun-Penghu' route, the maritime transportation network will be strengthened, improving accessibility to outlying islands and enabling Jiangjun Fishing Port to serve dual roles in fisheries production and marine tourism.
According to the city government, Jiangjun Fishing Port is a key port under municipal management, with over 170 registered vessels and an annual catch of approximately 700 metric tons. However, the two original floating docks had deteriorated significantly due to age, with pontoon surfaces becoming brittle and damaged. Repeated typhoons and southwest monsoon impacts caused severe structural damage, directly affecting vessel mooring and daily operations, necessitating reconstruction.
With enhanced disaster resilience at Jiangjun Fishing Port, the city is now planning a direct 'Tainan-Jiangjun Fishing Port to Penghu-Suocang' ferry route. Once operational, tourists from Tainan and surrounding areas will no longer need to travel to Kaohsiung or Chiayi to board ferries, as they can depart directly from Jiangjun Fishing Port to reach Penghu.
