(CNA Reporter Chiu Tsu-yin, Taipei, 18th) The National Central Library (NCL) and the University of Tsukuba Library have jointly established Japan's first "Taiwan Academic Digital Resource Center." The signing and opening ceremony was held on the 17th at the University of Tsukuba.

The signing ceremony was co-hosted by NCL Acting Director-General Weng Chih-tsung and University of Tsukuba Vice President and Library Director Kazuhiko Kato. Lee I-yang, Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan, presented a special floral tribute.

According to a press release issued by the NCL, Weng Chih-tsung stated in his remarks that Tsukuba Science City is an important hub for scientific research in Japan. With Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and Japanese research institutions collaborating more closely in recent years, the NCL hopes that the connection between Taiwan and Japan in the cultural and academic research fields will also be stronger than ever.

The NCL specially presented two replica sets of its national treasure-level classics: an 800-year-old copy of "Annotated Poems of Mr. Dongpo" and the earliest surviving two-color printed copy of the "Diamond Sutra." The NCL hopes these carefully selected classics will enrich the University of Tsukuba's collections.

The NCL stated that through cooperation with the university's library, it expects to integrate high-quality digital research resources from Taiwan, such as the NCL-built Taiwan and Sinological research databases and e-book platforms, to establish a sustainable and convenient mutually beneficial relationship. This will promote academic exchange and further enhance the international visibility of Taiwan's academic research achievements.

In the future, the NCL will continue to provide more diverse digital resources, and both sides will jointly hold related thematic lectures to enhance substantive exchanges. (Editor: Li Shu-hua) 1150618
