(Taipei, June 17, 2024, reporter Hsieh Ching-Wen) Detroit Tigers outfielder Li Hao-Yu started today's Major League Baseball (MLB) game, recording two hits in three at-bats, including a double, and driving in one run. This marks his second consecutive game with multiple hits. However, the Tigers ultimately lost 2-4 to the Houston Astros.
The Tigers faced the Astros today, with Taiwanese player Li Hao-Yu batting eighth and playing second base. In the top of the 2nd inning, the Tigers mounted an offensive. Spencer Torkelson drew a walk, and with two outs, Li hit a single to left field, driving in the team's first run. However, he was thrown out attempting to steal second base.
In the top of the 5th, Li reached base on an infield groundout via fielder's choice, but his teammates failed to extend the rally. The Astros tied the game in the bottom of the 5th inning, capitalizing on a hit, a walk, and a passed ball.
In the top of the 8th, Li faced Astros reliever Bryan King and launched a deep double to left field on the second pitch—his fourth double of the season. He advanced to third on a groundout and scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly.
The Astros responded in the bottom of the 8th, reigniting their offense. A hit, fielder's choice, walk, and a two-run single by Raynel Delgado flipped the score, followed by another run on a groundout to make it 4-2. The Tigers failed to score in the top of the 9th and suffered the loss.
Li finished the game 2-for-3 with a double, one RBI, and one run scored. He has now recorded multiple hits in two straight games, raising his season batting average to .239. (Edited by Chang Ya-Ching) 1150617
