Central News Agency Report

(CNA reporter Yeh Su-ping, Taipei, June 17) The Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) local party chair elections concluded at the end of May, with newly elected local chairs convening their first meeting today at the central party headquarters. According to sources, President Lai Qingde, who concurrently serves as DPP chair, presented certificates of election and issued a mobilization order, urging local party branches to prepare for the 2026 local elections and to begin planning for the 2028 presidential election.

The results of the DPP's biennial party leadership elections were announced on May 24. This term's local chairs will shoulder the critical responsibility of supporting the year-end municipal mayoral and councilor elections.

The DPP central office convened a meeting of local party chairs this afternoon. Attendees reported that Lai Qingde personally presented each chair with a certificate of election and delivered brief remarks, concluding the meeting after approximately 30 minutes.

According to attendees, Lai emphasized during the meeting that party branches are not merely election machines. He stressed the need for them to actively fulfill social and public welfare functions, such as organizing blood donation drives and winter warmth campaigns.

Lai also instructed that, in addition to preparing for the 2026 local elections—including identifying grassroots candidates for positions such as township mayors and village heads—local branches must also begin planning for the 2028 presidential election.

Sources noted that morale was high at today's meeting, but since all chairs needed to return to campaign duties, the meeting ended quickly. (Edited by Lin Ko-lun) 1150617
