The Kaohsiung City Government attended the 2026 World Cities Summit in Singapore from June 13 to 17, engaging with city leaders, experts, and international representatives from around the globe to discuss urban development trends and share Kaohsiung’s experiences in port transformation and smart city initiatives.
Deputy Secretary-General Wang Chi-chuan led a delegation from the Administration and International Affairs Department and the Transportation Bureau to participate in the 2026 World Cities Summit (World Cities Summit) and attended the thematic exchange event of the EU International Urban Partnership Program.
At a special forum during the summit, Wang was invited to deliver a speech titled "The Transformation of Kaohsiung’s Old Harbor," elaborating on how Kaohsiung has leveraged port-city integration and the development of the Asia New Bay area as core strategies. By applying smart technologies, industrial transformation, and urban regeneration, the city is building an international port city that balances industrial competitiveness with livability.
During the summit, the Kaohsiung delegation actively engaged in exchanges with officials and representatives from sister cities including Fort Lauderdale (USA), Brisbane (Australia), and Tokyo (Japan), aiming to deepen multilateral cooperation.
According to a press release issued today by the Administration and International Affairs Department, the delegation also conducted several municipal inspections, including visits to Singapore’s National Pavilion at the World Cities Summit, the headquarters of Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (SMRT), and the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), to observe demonstration sites of AI and digital applications.
Director-General Chang Yen-ching stated that since joining the EU International Urban Partnership Program in 2025, Kaohsiung has continuously exchanged governance experiences with European and Asia-Pacific cities through online meetings, in-person workshops, and study visits. The city has also jointly developed innovative smart application initiatives. Going forward, Kaohsiung will continue to expand its international influence in digital governance and showcase its transformation and progress to the world. (Edited by Huang Ming-hsi) 1150617
