(Central News Agency reporter Yu Hsiao-han, Taipei, June 17) Due to thunderstorms in the sky, Songshan Airport suspended ground operations starting at 2:59 PM today, potentially causing delays for some flights.

The Central Weather Administration has issued a heavy rain alert, warning that strong convective cloud systems developing in the afternoon may bring short-duration heavy rainfall. There is a risk of localized heavy rain or torrential rain in Taipei City, New Taipei City, Keelung City, and mountainous areas of Nantou County today. Localized heavy rain is also possible in areas north of Hsinchu, as well as in Miaoli, central Taiwan, Yilan, Hualien, and mountainous areas of Kaohsiung. The public is advised to beware of lightning strikes and strong gusts. Mountainous areas should guard against landslides and falling rocks, while low-lying areas should watch for flooding.

The Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications stated that due to thunderstorms, Songshan Airport suspended ground operations from 2:59 PM, which may lead to flight delays. The CAA urges passengers and those picking up travelers to monitor flight status updates. For flight-related inquiries, please contact the respective airlines.

The CAA noted that airports with flights to and from Songshan will also be affected, resulting in delayed departures and arrivals. The CAA has instructed relevant airports to immediately inform passengers through notice boards, scrolling displays, and public announcements within terminals. Updated flight information is also available on official websites for public access. (Edited by Li Heng-shan) 1150617
