DPP Nominates Wu Shujin, Wife of Magistrate Chen Kuang-fu, for Penghu County Magistracy

Chen Kuang-fu, the incumbent Magistrate of Penghu County who had already been nominated by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for re-election, suffered a severe head injury after an accidental fall in February and remains hospitalized. Today, the DPP's Central Campaign Committee convened a meeting and recommended nominating Chen Kuang-fu's wife, Wu Shujin, as the party's candidate for the Penghu County Magistracy. The nomination will be formally approved by the Central Executive Committee this afternoon, followed by a press conference where DPP Chair Lai Qingde will present Wu Shujin with a campaign sash.

Chen Kuang-fu was originally nominated by the DPP to run for re-election. On February 17 this year, during a Lunar New Year performance event hosted by the Cultural Bureau, he accidentally fell and sustained a serious head injury, after which he has remained hospitalized.

DPP spokesperson Wu Cheng stated after the meeting that the Campaign Committee has decided to recommend the Central Executive Committee to change the nomination in Penghu County and formally nominate Wu Shujin, Chen Kuang-fu's wife, as the DPP's candidate for the Penghu County Magistracy.

Wu Cheng said that Chen Kuang-fu is still recovering from the incident that occurred at the beginning of the year. The party central committee hopes for collective support to pray for Chen's early recovery, while also acknowledging various opinions and considerations from different sectors. At this afternoon's nomination press conference, Party Chair Lai Qingde will fully explain and introduce Wu Shujin.

The DPP's afternoon nomination press conference will also introduce Lin Yueh-chin, the DPP's mayoral candidate for Miaoli City.

Wu Cheng noted that Lin Yueh-chin has already completed the nomination process and will run for Miaoli City Mayor in her capacity as a legislator. Lai Qingde will introduce Lin Yueh-chin at the press conference.

Additionally, Wu Cheng emphasized that this is not the final round of nominations by the Campaign Committee. Nominations for Lienchiang County, Kinmen County, and Hualien County have not yet been finalized.
