(Central News Agency reporter Wu Jui-chi, Taoyuan, June 17) Today, the Taoyuan City Government signed a memorandum of understanding with Ruey Hsing Bank and the Taiwan Water Environment Technology Research and Development Education Foundation to jointly promote environmental education at the Daxi Ruixing Wetland, integrating corporate, academic, and governmental forces to deepen wetland conservation and sustainable water resource development.

The signing ceremony for the 'Ruixing Wetland Environmental Education Promotion Plan' was held today at the Taoyuan City Government. Taoyuan Mayor Chang Shan-cheng stated that the Ruixing Wetland, located along the Dahan River in the Daxi District, is an important man-made wetland in Taoyuan that combines water purification, ecological conservation, and environmental education functions. The city government hopes to enable citizens to experience waterfront environments while understanding the value of wetlands through public-private-academic collaboration, further enhancing environmental awareness and jointly protecting precious water resources.

Ruey Hsing Bank Chairman Kuo Chuan-pu pointed out that the Ruixing Wetland already has a solid ecological foundation and educational potential. In the future, the bank will leverage corporate resources to support volunteer participation, ecological observation, and the promotion of environmental education.

Executive Director Lee Hung-yuan of the Taiwan Water Environment Technology Research and Development Education Foundation stated that man-made wetlands serve multiple functions, including treating domestic wastewater, improving water quality, providing ecological habitats, environmental education, and carbon sequestration. Taoyuan possesses rich and diverse wetland resources. By integrating school education, research measurements, and environmental teaching materials, the Ruixing Wetland can become a demonstration site with educational, research, and sustainable development significance.

According to the Taoyuan City Government Water Resources Bureau, the Ruixing Wetland covers approximately 21 hectares with a capacity of about 44,000 tons. It features seven treatment ponds and can process approximately 9,650 tons of dry-weather mixed wastewater daily, discharging purified water into the Dahan River, effectively improving water quality. In the future, it will integrate with the 'Greater Longmen Circular Tourism Belt Plan' to connect surrounding wetlands and scenic spots, creating a 146-hectare riverside blue-green corridor and developing into a demonstration base for environmental education and wetland management in Taoyuan.
