(CNA reporter Hsieh Yi-hsuan, Taipei, June 17) Tseng Wen-huang, former plant manager of Taipower's Nuclear Plant 2, was indicted last year by the Taipei District Prosecutors Office on suspicion of accepting bribes. Prosecutors have further uncovered four procurement cases at Nuclear Plant 2 allegedly involving public officials receiving bribes. Today, the Taipei District Prosecutors Office directed the Anti-Corruption Agency to conduct searches at 28 locations. Taipower stated it will fully cooperate with judicial investigative agencies under the principle of 'no wrongful conviction, no cover-up.'

Regarding today's search operations at Nuclear Plant 2 directed by the Taipei District Prosecutors Office, Taipower stated it has established close communication and cooperation with prosecutors and anti-corruption units. The company emphasized it will uphold the principles of 'no wrongful conviction, no cover-up' and fully cooperate with judicial investigations. As the case has entered judicial proceedings, Taipower pledged to strictly punish any confirmed violations according to regulations.

Taipower stated it will continue reviewing potential systemic flaws or human-induced risks in procurement operations, propose improvement measures, develop anti-corruption strategies, and strengthen integrity education to foster a clean and ethical organizational culture.

In August last year, the Taipei District Prosecutors Office indicted Tseng Wen-huang and others under the Anti-Corruption Act for accepting bribes in connection with official duties. Prosecutors have further investigated and discovered four additional procurement cases at Nuclear Plant 2 between 2018 and 2019, allegedly involving personnel accepting bribes.

Today, the Taipei District Prosecutors Office, directing the Anti-Corruption Agency, executed search warrants issued by the court at 28 locations, including residences and offices of Tseng Wen-huang and Chen, a deputy plant manager at Nuclear Plant 2. Nine individuals, including Tseng, Chen, three other Nuclear Plant 2 staff members, and four vendors, were summoned for questioning. The case is being investigated under the Anti-Corruption Act.
