TAIPEI (Central News Agency) — Foreign Minister Joseph Wu attended the opening ceremony of the Mosaic Taiwan 2026 exchange program on the 17th and stated on social media that despite facing challenges from authoritarian expansion, Taiwan remains steadfast in upholding the values of democracy, freedom, and human rights. He expressed hope that participants would gain a multifaceted understanding of Taiwan.

Wu posted on Facebook that on the 16th, he welcomed young participants from the United States and Canada to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the 'Mosaic Taiwan 2026' exchange program. The name 'Mosaic Taiwan' reflects the spirit of the initiative: just as a mosaic is formed by assembling individual tiles, understanding a country or city like Taiwan comes from piecing together various experiences.

For participants, getting to know Taiwan might involve a visit, an encounter at a school or industrial site, or a conversation with a local. When these fragments are combined, they form a unique image of Taiwan in each individual’s mind.

Since its launch in 2014, Mosaic Taiwan has invited young people from the U.S. and Canada to deepen their understanding of Taiwan. Over the years, Taiwan has built lasting connections with foreign youth who care about and support the island. This year’s program will guide participants through diverse aspects of Taiwan, including democratic values, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and social resilience.

Wu emphasized that Taiwan is a trustworthy partner and a force for good in the international community. Despite pressures and challenges from authoritarian expansion, Taiwan continues to uphold democratic freedoms and human rights, working closely with like-minded countries to contribute to a more peaceful, prosperous, and resilient future.

He encouraged participants to 'ask questions, observe closely, and engage in conversations' during their stay. Through repeated interactions and exchanges, he believes the vibrant and authentic image of Taiwan will gradually take shape in each participant’s heart—becoming vivid and alive.
