According to Central News Agency reporter Ho Hsiu-ling in Taipei on June 17, Mexican tacos sold at the Costco Moriyama warehouse in Nagoya, Japan, were found to contain O157 enterohemorrhagic E. coli, leading to a food poisoning incident.
Japanese media reported that the Nagoya City Health Department confirmed five individuals, aged between 7 and 49, developed symptoms including diarrhea and abdominal pain after consuming tacos made and sold at the store between late May and early June. All five tested positive for O157 enterohemorrhagic E. coli.
Three of the affected customers were hospitalized, with one child developing hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) and still undergoing treatment. The Nagoya City Health Department has classified this as a food poisoning incident and ordered the store's kitchen to cease operations.
Taiwan Costco responded today, stating that the specific product involved in the Japanese incident was never sold in Taiwan. The company emphasized that all similar products currently available in its stores comply with relevant food safety standards. (Edited by Lin Shu-Yuan) 1150617
