(Central News, Washington, 16th - Comprehensive foreign report) Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has criticized former President Joe Biden's decision to seek re-election in 2024, arguing that a candidate who genuinely won the Democratic primary 'could have defeated Trump.'

According to The Hill, Hillary Clinton told The New Yorker journalist David Remnick in a recent conversation: 'He made a serious mistake, one that was detrimental to himself, to history, and to the country.'

She added: 'He originally declared he wouldn't run again, and you know, counterfactual narratives are always tricky, but I believe if he had stuck to his original plan—say, announcing in late summer 2023 that he wouldn't run and passing the torch to the next generation—we would have had a real contest.'

She continued: 'And it's deeply regrettable, but I believe whoever emerged from that contest—whether it was the vice president, a governor, a senator, or anyone else—would have defeated Trump. So I think President Biden seriously misjudged the situation.'

Biden's administration faced persistent questions about his age and health, which intensified after his June 2024 debate with Trump, during which Biden's voice was hoarse and he frequently stumbled over his words.

Under mounting pressure to withdraw after the debate, Biden announced weeks later that he was stepping down from the race, with then-Vice President Kamala Harris representing the Democratic Party in the presidential election. However, she ultimately lost to Republican opponent Trump in November, and the Democrats also lost their advantage in Congress.

The Guardian reports that Clinton's assertion that any Democratic candidate could have beaten Trump remains debatable.

A report by the left-leaning think tank 'Way to Win' on the 2024 election loss identified three core issues: voters' desire for economic change, the Republican Party's structural advantage in media, and a severe disconnect between progressive movements and the Democratic Party on issues like Gaza, racial justice, and immigration. Another controversial internal Democratic review report, delayed in release, listed a series of failures, describing the party's decline across all levels of government over the past two decades.
