(Taipei, June 17, CNA reporter Lu Chia-jung) Actor Li Liquan claimed that searching Taiwanese TV channels yielded no coverage of the FIFA World Cup. In response, Chen Bin-hua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of China, stated today at a regular press conference that mainland internet platforms and apps are open to Taiwanese viewers for live match broadcasts.
Chen explained that China Central Television (CMG) has signed a broadcasting rights agreement with FIFA, securing exclusive full-media rights and sub-licensing rights for the current World Cup within China.
He added, 'We welcome our compatriots in Taiwan to use mainland networks and apps to watch live matches, or even come to China to enjoy the games in person.'
In a written response, Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) stated that local media companies have already acquired broadcasting rights for the tournament in Taiwan, offering diverse viewing options via television, MOD, and streaming platforms, allowing fans to enjoy the event without relying on mainland Chinese networks or apps.
The MAC concluded that the Taiwan Affairs Office commenting on World Cup broadcasts is 'unnecessary meddling in others' affairs.' (Edited by Chen Kai-yu) 1150617
