TAIPEI (Central News Agency, January 17) — The Taipei stock market opened lower but rallied to close higher today, rising 68.2 points to 45,877.39, a 0.15% gain, with a total trading value of NT$1.102051 trillion.

The weighted index opened at 45,685.27, reaching a high of 45,877.39 and a low of 45,159.51 during the session. The non-financial index closed at 41,188.72, up 5.16 points.

Performance across the eight major sectors: Cement & ceramics stocks rose 0.68%, food stocks up 0.3%, petrochemical stocks surged 3.47%, textile stocks fell 0.53%, machinery & electronics stocks declined 0.07%, paper & pulp stocks gained 2.03%, construction stocks rose 0.61%, and financial stocks climbed 1.77%.

Buy orders totaled 22.18 million shares, sell orders 15.48 million shares, with 12.05 million shares traded.

At closing, 660 stocks rose, 315 fell, and 128 remained unchanged.

Top five stocks by trading volume: AU Optronics, Active United Upgrade 50, Innolux, Powerchip Technology, and Yuanta Taiwan 50 Pro 2.

Top five gainers: Nan Ya, Ouge, Tian Er Technology, Crystal Opto, and Nippon Denkai.

Top five decliners: Qijie Kou Brent Pro 2, Cheng Shin, Meng Li, Acer, and Feng Tay.
