According to a report by Central News Agency, Wang Yi-li, a councilor in Taitung County and Kuomintang-nominated candidate for mayor of Lüdao Township, has been indicted by the Taitung District Prosecutors Office for allegedly hiring four fictitious assistants and fraudulently claiming NT$4,689,114 in public funds.
The Taitung District Prosecutors Office announced that Wang, leveraging her position as a county councilor, falsely employed four individuals—surnamed Tsai, Wang, Tsai, and Lin—between December 2022 and April 2023, despite them not performing any actual duties.
The prosecutors stated that Wang and the four accomplices are jointly charged with corruption under the Anti-Corruption Act and forgery of official documents. The prosecution has also requested the confiscation of the illicit proceeds totaling NT$4,689,114.
Wang, originally elected as an independent councilor three years ago, is now running for mayor of Lüdao Township with the Kuomintang's nomination. In response to the indictment, Wang stated she will 'continue to move forward courageously and serve the community.'
