Juntailin Road in Nantou County Reopens in July; Hikers Urged to Beware Weather and Falling Rocks

The agency urges all visitors to carefully monitor weather conditions and remain alert for falling rocks from slopes before entering the mountain area. If any signs of danger are observed, hikers should immediately stop advancing and evacuate.

The Nantou Branch of the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency under the Ministry of Agriculture announced today that Juntailin Road, which has undergone multiple rounds of disaster recovery and engineering repairs, is scheduled to reopen in July. Given the fragile geology of the mountainous region and the ongoing flood season, the Nantou Branch urges the public to carefully assess weather conditions and personal gear before entering. Visitors are advised to closely monitor the latest road access status and control information published on the branch's official website.

The Nantou Branch stated that Juntailin Road frequently suffers from falling rocks, landslides, and roadbed erosion due to heavy rains, earthquakes, and typhoons. To enhance safety, ongoing disaster recovery projects are being carried out. The rehabilitation work at the 4.7-kilometer mark was completed in June and is now passable. Construction at the 12-kilometer mark began today, and hikers are asked to follow traffic instructions from the construction team. Restoration planning for the 19- to 34-kilometer section has already been completed.

Although sections of the road have been progressively restored, the Nantou Branch emphasized that the risk of natural disasters cannot be entirely eliminated. With the flood season in full swing, afternoon downpours, typhoons, and earthquakes in mountainous areas can easily trigger landslides. The public is advised to avoid entering Juntailin Road during this period. If entry is necessary, high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles are recommended, and hikers must carry complete communication devices, lighting equipment, and emergency preparedness gear.
