According to CNA reporter Huang Liyun in Taipei, a traffic accident occurred in Taipei's Ziqiang Tunnel around 8:00 a.m. today, June 17, involving one car and three motorcycles. Three motorcyclists sustained abrasions and bruises on their limbs, causing severe traffic congestion. Police responded promptly and confirmed no evidence of drunk or drugged driving. The situation was cleared by 8:50 a.m.
The Zhongshan District Police Station of the Taipei City Police Department received a report at 8:27 a.m. stating that a traffic accident had occurred inside the Ziqiang Tunnel, with traffic flowing from Shilin toward Dazhi. As the incident occurred during the morning commute, it caused significant traffic delays, prompting immediate dispatch of officers.
Preliminary investigations revealed that at the time of the incident, a man surnamed Chen was riding his motorcycle southbound in the first lane of the tunnel when he accidentally rear-ended two motorcycles stopped ahead in the same lane, causing injuries to a woman surnamed Wang and a man surnamed Dai, both sustaining abrasions and bruises on their limbs.
Following the impact, the two motorcycles struck the rear of a car driven by a man surnamed Lu, who was positioned in front.
Police have preliminarily ruled out drunk or drugged driving among all involved drivers. The incident resulted in injuries to three motorcyclists. Among them, Mr. Dai was transported to the hospital for treatment.
