(CNA, Taipei, June 17) On June 16 local time, the UK government announced sanctions on a number of entities and individuals from various countries, including four Chinese organizations, citing their alleged involvement in supplying critical military equipment to Russia. A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in the UK stated that China has already lodged formal representations with the British side.
According to China News Service, the spokesperson emphasized that China firmly opposes unilateral sanctions imposed by the UK without basis in international law, which undermine the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.
The spokesperson reiterated that on the issue of the Ukraine crisis, China has consistently advocated for peace talks and strictly controls the export of dual-use items. Normal exchanges and cooperation between China and Russia should not be disrupted or influenced.
China urged the UK to immediately correct its mistakes, lift the sanctions against the relevant Chinese entities, and stated it will take necessary measures to resolutely safeguard the lawful rights and interests of Chinese enterprises. (Editors: Zhu Jianling / Qiu Guoqiang) 1150617
