Tesla Taiwan announced today that it has submitted application documents for the Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised system to the Vehicle Safety Testing Center (VSCC) this week. It will collaborate with the Ministry of Transportation and VSCC to initiate the review process for this new driving technology, aiming to expedite the on-road deployment of FSD in Taiwan.
In a press release, Tesla Taiwan stated that its Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised system has already been launched or received regulatory approval in 12 countries and regions, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, and Belgium. In Japan, Tesla is actively conducting road tests in major urban areas such as Tokyo, Yokohama, and Osaka. The company is actively advancing FSD regulatory approval and future implementation plans in Taiwan.
Tesla Taiwan explained that the FSD Supervised system is trained on anonymous real-world driving data collected from over 8.5 million Tesla vehicles globally. This data covers driving scenarios equivalent to over 100 years of real-world driving experience. Each newly delivered vehicle can import all accumulated training data in approximately 10 minutes—an amount exceeding the variety of driving situations any single driver could encounter in a lifetime.
Tesla Taiwan noted that as part of its global FSD usage transition and activation plan, the one-time purchase option for FSD will cease sales in Taiwan at 11:59 PM on June 30, 2024. This change does not affect existing customers who have already opted for lifetime FSD access. All current and pre-delivery owners in Taiwan can still opt to add FSD before June 30, 2024. Additionally, owners with HW3.0 who have already selected FSD will be eligible for free FSD transfer if they complete a new vehicle order by September 30, 2024.
Tesla Taiwan emphasized that the current FSD (Supervised) system requires active driver supervision and cannot enable autonomous driving. Tesla’s driver assistance technology is a Level 2 (L2) system that strictly requires drivers to remain alert and ready to intervene at all times. Under current international and Taiwan traffic regulations, the driver remains the responsible party during vehicle operation and must bear responsibility for their driving behavior.
