(Central News Agency, Évian-les-Bains, June 16) Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takagi and U.S. President Donald Trump are attending the G7 summit in Évian-les-Bains, France. On the morning of June 16 local time, the two leaders held a brief meeting to discuss the situation regarding Iran and the Indo-Pacific region, including China.
According to the website of Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the brief discussion between Takagi and Trump took place after the G7's session on Ukraine.
The two leaders exchanged views on the situation concerning Iran. Takagi expressed her welcome for the recent Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) reached between the U.S. and Iran.
Takagi and Trump also reaffirmed the importance of steadily implementing the Japan-U.S. tariff agreement and agreed to further promote cooperation between the two nations.
Additionally, they exchanged opinions on the situation in the Indo-Pacific region, including China's role. Both leaders confirmed their commitment to maintaining close communication to address developments in the international situation in both the Indo-Pacific and the Middle East.
