(CNA reporter Ho Hsiu-ling, Taipei, June 16) The 618 Shopping Festival, the most important e-commerce sales event of the first half of the year, has officially begun. E-commerce platforms have observed that, in addition to AI applications driving device upgrade demand, high-value products such as travel and cultural services, luxury goods, and gold have also seen rising consumer interest. This reflects that consumers, beyond seeking discounts, are increasingly prioritizing product quality, value preservation, and life experiences.
Regarding current performance during the 618 sales period, momo Shopping Network, operated by Fubon Media, told CNA reporters that consumer demand has significantly increased since the start of the event. The first phase, from June 1 to 8, boosted both website traffic and order momentum, with June traffic rising 20% compared to regular days.
PChome 24h Shopping, under NetCity, stated that its "618 Mid-Year Discount Battle," which began warming up at the end of May, has seen overall site revenue grow by double digits year-on-year.
As for this year's 618 consumer trends, industry players noted that the widespread adoption of AI applications continues to drive device upgrades. Momo pointed out that the most searched product categories on its platform remain 3C electronics, major appliances, and small appliances, with 3C products benefiting from upgrade demand and new product launches. PChome 24h Shopping added that due to the ongoing buzz from COMPUTEX and the spread of AI applications, sales of AI laptops have doubled compared to the same period last year.
Beyond 3C products, high-priced and value-preserving goods have also emerged as highlights of this year's 618 event. Yahoo Shopping, in a press release today, stated that consumers are allocating more of their budgets toward specification upgrades, quality-driven consumption, and value-preserving items. For example, sales of luxury brands increased by over 300%, and due to high international gold prices, sales of gold bars and gold beans surged by 1,600%.
E-commerce platform SHOPLINE released its first-week report (June 1–9) for the 618 Shopping Festival, indicating that the top three industries by online gross merchandise value (GMV) were travel and cultural services, electronics and 3C products, and home living. Travel and cultural services saw over 50% growth, emerging as the biggest dark horse.
SHOPLINE stated that despite inflationary pressures, consumers have not stopped spending; instead, they place greater importance on the actual benefits and life experiences provided by products and services. (Editor: Chang Liang-chih) 1150616
