(Central News Agency reporter Wang Chaoyu, Yilan, June 16) President and DPP Chairperson Lai Qingde visited Yuding Citian Temple in Jiaoxi Township, Yilan County, this afternoon to offer incense and unveil a new plaque, expressing his hope that local residents will support DPP Yilan County magistrate candidate Lin Guozhang, enabling him to win the election and work with the central government to vigorously develop Yilan.

Accompanied by Lin Guozhang and DPP legislator Chen Junyu, President Lai offered incense and unveiled the new plaque inscribed with 'Ze Run Xia Fang' (Benevolence Reaches Far). President Lai stated that his visit today had three purposes. First, to fulfill a vow—he had previously visited the temple during his tenure as Premier and Vice President, and now as President, he came to express gratitude for divine blessings.

Second, he emphasized that Citian Temple is not only a religious center but also a hub of community life in Yilan. He presented the plaque to honor the divine power of Mazu. Third, he prayed for Taiwan’s well-being, especially as typhoon season approaches, asking Mazu to protect the nation and ensure peace and stability.

President Lai stressed that while divine protection is important, human effort is equally essential. Legislators, he said, should prioritize national interests regardless of party affiliation. 'Those who do not support the nation cannot truly support local citizens,' he remarked. He praised Lin Guozhang for his 30 years of legal experience, integrity, professionalism, and strong sense of mission toward Yilan. He noted that Lin’s entire team is united in their commitment to Yilan’s future, giving him hope for the county’s development, and urged public support for Lin’s team.

Lai expressed his personal wish: Yilan is a 'holy land of democracy,' yet many areas still require development. He announced the appointment of Chen Jinde as Minister without Portfolio and Chair of the Public Construction Commission, emphasizing that if residents support and elect Lin Guozhang, central and local governments can jointly 'vigorously develop Yilan County.'

He also highlighted that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Snow Mountain Tunnel, a crucial infrastructure project for Yilan. The tunnel was completed during former Premier You Si-kun’s tenure, underscoring that Yilan’s development should be led by people from Yilan. 'When choosing leaders, we must select the best talent,' he said, reaffirming his strong support for Lin Guozhang.
