The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) responded today to accusations by Kuomintang (KMT) legislators that the DPP's launch of the 'Taiwan Good Life' 2026 municipal policy forums constitutes political mobilization and misuse of public resources. The DPP emphasized that all宣讲 activities are fully organized by DPP party branches, serving as a platform to connect the central administrative team with frontline local stakeholders. These forums aim to explain policy outcomes and future plans to industry representatives, association leaders, and grassroots citizens, while also listening directly to public opinion and promoting government policies. 'What's wrong with that?' the party questioned.
In a press release, DPP spokesperson Lin Chu-ying stated that seven 'Taiwan Good Life' policy forums have already been completed, with the first phase focusing on exchanges between industry representatives and local cadres. She described this as a concrete demonstration of the ruling team proactively engaging with the grassroots and directly facing public sentiment.
Lin added that future forums will expand in scale according to local needs, reaching broader audiences. The DPP will also promote President Lai Ching-te's recently announced '18 Population Policy Measures,' particularly the policy proposal on child allowances for ages 0 to 18, at the grassroots level.
Lin criticized opposition party legislators for 'sitting in air-conditioned offices doing nothing' in the legislature, deliberately pushing through bad laws, intentionally prolonging legislative sessions, and obstructing the review of the central government's annual budget. She pointed out the contradiction of demanding the Executive Yuan upgrade air conditioning equipment while simultaneously delaying sessions to protect legislators involved in illegal activities.
Lin emphasized that opposition parties should not sit idle in their offices and then criticize the ruling party for communicating with the public at the local level. She warned that the opposition's blind political infighting and dereliction of duty, along with their obstruction of central governance, will ultimately face severe judgment from public opinion.
The DPP reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining its pace, deepening local engagement, and responding to public expectations through concrete actions. Lin called on opposition parties to return to rational oversight and policy discussion rather than disrupting governance with political rhetoric. (Edited by Chai Szu-chia)
