(Central News Agency, Evian-les-Bains, France, June 15 — Comprehensive foreign report) U.S. President Donald Trump arrived at the Group of Seven (G7) summit held at the lakeside resort of Evian-les-Bains in France, where he strongly promoted a preliminary agreement reached with Iran to end the conflict, and stated his intention to focus next on ending the wars in Ukraine and Lebanon.

According to Reuters, Trump arrived at the G7 summit amid growing unease among global leaders over U.S. foreign policy. While the prospect of resolving the Iran conflict brought relief to many leaders, Trump’s renewed threat to impose new tariffs on France and his warnings on immigration reignited anxiety among allies.

At a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, Trump announced that the U.S. and Iran had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to end the war in the Persian Gulf, though he did not specify when the details would be made public.

He noted that several ships had already passed through the Strait of Hormuz — a critical global oil and gas supply route previously blocked by Iran — without paying tolls.

Following the Iran agreement, Trump said he would shift focus to mediating peace between Ukraine and Russia, while also seeking to end hostilities in Lebanon.

"We had a very good conversation yesterday with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President Vladimir Putin," he said. "I think maybe we can do something there. I really believe that, and I think they are both open to it."

The conflicts in Eastern Europe and the Middle East are just one of many issues G7 leaders will address during the summit from June 15 to 17. They will also seek consensus on correcting global economic imbalances, sourcing critical minerals outside of China, and regulating artificial intelligence (AI).

● Key Talks on Ukraine

Trump is expected to hold a working meeting with Zelenskyy during the summit. Zelenskyy’s position has improved since Trump told him in the Oval Office last year, "You don’t have much leverage."

Russia’s offensive in Ukraine has slowed, and while Kyiv continues to face attacks, Ukraine is actively seeking more military aid and funding from its allies.

Zelenskyy said yesterday that he had expressed willingness at the G7 summit to meet with Putin to end the war, which has lasted over four years, but that the Russian side was not yet ready for dialogue.

However, securing concrete commitments from Trump may prove difficult. G7 leaders view him as unpredictable, and his unilateral decisions have disrupted their strategies on the Middle East, global trade, and diplomacy, prompting deeper scrutiny of America’s commitment to the post-war international order.

● New Tariff Threats

Before departing for France, Trump told the New York Post that he had "no choice" but to impose 100% tariffs on French wine unless Paris repealed its digital tax on U.S. tech giants.

Moments before arriving at the summit, Trump also posted on social media about immigration — a perennial sore point for centrist European allies.

"Sadly, if you bring in people from the third world, you quickly become the third world yourself. And you can't do anything about it," he wrote.

In an interview with French television TF1, Macron stated that France would never yield to Trump’s tariff threats, emphasizing, "Tariffs benefit no one, especially not when imposed among G7 nations."
