(CNA reporter Liu Kuan-ting, Taipei, 16th) Hsieh Cheng-da, former Vice Mayor of New Taipei City and recently nominated as a监察委员, issued a written statement today announcing his decision to decline the nomination. Another nominee, Liao Wan-ju, former legislator of the Kuomintang (KMT), also released a statement saying that after careful consideration, she has decided to decline the nomination as监察委员, and expressed her support for the Legislative Yuan's proposal to amend the constitution to abolish the Control Yuan.

On the 11th, Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim announced that President Lai Ching-te has nominated Chen Yung-hsing, former president of the Taiwan Association for Human Rights, as President of the Control Yuan, and incumbent监察委员 Wang Jung-chang as Vice President. The president also nominated Hsieh Cheng-da, Liao Wan-ju, and others as监察委员.

Hsieh Cheng-da issued a written statement today stating, "After careful consideration, I have decided to decline the nomination as监察委员," as a concrete expression of support for the constitutional amendment proposal submitted by the Legislative Yuan to abolish the Control Yuan. He expressed gratitude to President Lai Ching-te for the nomination.

Subsequently, Liao Wan-ju also released a statement expressing her appreciation for the attention and advice from all sectors during this period. After careful consideration, she announced her decision to decline the nomination as监察委员.

Liao Wan-ju stated that as a political worker who has long served as a central public representative, when she was consulted about the监察委员 nomination, she believed that her years of experience interacting with local communities would enable her to contribute to meeting the public's expectations for fairness and swift responses from the Control Yuan, and to rebuilding societal trust in the institution. This was her original motivation for accepting the nomination.

Liao noted that after the list of监察委员 nominees was announced, extensive discussions emerged across society. Particularly regarding the abolition of the Control Yuan, she observed, for the first time, a consensus among political parties, both ruling and opposition, with public opinion largely in agreement. Therefore, she issued this statement in support of the Legislative Yuan's constitutional amendment proposal to abolish the Control Yuan. However, she also hopes the Legislative Yuan will swiftly complete constitutional reforms to establish a constitutional system suitable for the Republic of China, in line with public expectations. She once again expressed gratitude for the nomination and thanked all sectors for their concern and support. (Edited by Lin Hsing-meng, Su Lung-chi) 1150616
