Taipei, June 16 (Central News Agency reporter Liu Kuan-ting) — KMT Chairperson Cheng Li-chun has concluded her visit to the United States, and Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu is scheduled to visit the U.S. on the 21st. KMT spokesperson Niu Hsu-ting stated today that party members are adopting a 'divide and conquer' strategy, seizing every opportunity and level of access to broadly engage with international stakeholders and convey the KMT's core principles. He urged the public to view these visits with calmness and an open mind, avoiding falling into traps set by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Taichung Mayor Lu Hsiu-yen led a delegation to the U.S. in March. Cheng Li-chun returned to Taiwan early this morning after completing her U.S. trip, while Han Kuo-yu is set to lead another delegation on June 21.
In a radio interview today, Niu Hsu-ting explained that the successive U.S. visits by Lu, Cheng, and Han reflect growing American interest in the KMT, aimed at bridging past information gaps that led to misjudgments. He noted that the U.S. has expectations for the KMT and is proactively building relationships to lay the groundwork for future trust — a development that benefits the KMT.
Regarding Cheng Li-chun’s visit outcomes, Niu stated that she successfully conveyed diverse perspectives within Taiwanese society. The U.S. has shown strong interest and expectations toward the KMT. Even former U.S. President Trump closely monitors relations with Chinese President Xi Jinping, underscoring how increased dialogue helps prevent misunderstandings — a win-win scenario aligning with all parties’ interests.
On criticism from the Green Camp accusing opposition parties of neglecting budget reviews, Niu responded that the DPP is like 'the boy who cried wolf,' repeatedly claiming opposition inaction will lead to funding shortfalls for programs like TPASS or housing subsidies — assertions the public has found to be unfounded.
