TAIPEI, June 16 (Central News Agency reporter Yeh Su-ping) — Chen Kuang-fu, the incumbent Magong County Magistrate who had already been nominated for re-election, suffered a severe head injury in February after an accidental fall and remains hospitalized. The DPP will convene its Central Campaign Committee tomorrow to recommend nominating Chen’s wife, Wu Shu-Chin, to run in his place. A nomination press conference will be held by the DPP Central Committee tomorrow afternoon, where President Lai Ching-te, who also serves as DPP Chair, will personally present Wu with a campaign sash.
Chen Kuang-fu sustained a serious head injury on February 17 (Lunar New Year's Day) during a cultural bureau Spring Festival performance event. He has remained hospitalized since.
The DPP issued a media advisory this evening, announcing that a nomination press conference will be held after tomorrow’s Central Executive Committee meeting. Lai Ching-te will present the campaign sash to Wu Shu-Chin, the DPP’s Magong County Magistrate candidate.
Wu Shu-Chin recently told the media that she is fully prepared to run in place of her husband, stating, “Everything is ready.” She expressed her hope to move forward with the people, safeguard democracy and protect Magong, continuing Chen Kuang-fu’s policy vision.
Additionally, the DPP’s Central Campaign Committee held a meeting in May and recommended that the Miaoli County Party branch nominate legislator Lin Yueh-chin for the Miaoli City mayoral race. According to the DPP’s media advisory today, President Lai will also present the campaign sash to Lin Yueh-chin, the Miaoli City mayoral candidate, during tomorrow’s press conference.
