(CNA reporter Yu Hsiao-han, Taipei, June 16) Taoyuan Airport's Terminal 3 is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027. According to Taoyuan Airport's planning, the self-check-in ratio at Terminal 3 will significantly increase to nearly 50%. Additionally, the main terminal will include five boarding gates dedicated to small aircraft.

Designed by the team of British architectural master Richard Rogers, Pritzker Architecture Prize laureate, Terminal 3 features a 100,000-square-meter wave-inspired ceiling design, 16 massive steel columns, and a total of 139,000 cloud-like ceiling panels indoors and outdoors.

The total budget for Terminal 3 is NT$128.373 billion, covering the main terminal, north and south concourses, and office buildings. It will include 21 contact gates and is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, with a planned annual service capacity of 45 million passengers.

Transportation Minister Chen Shih-kai visited Taoyuan Airport today to inspect the latest progress of Terminal 3's construction. Chen stated that Terminal 3 is the largest single public building project since the Ten Major Construction Projects.

Chen noted that Taoyuan Airport's passenger volume will exceed 50 million, and cargo growth is accelerating rapidly, with output value already doubled. Therefore, Terminal 3 is crucial for the nation's future air transportation development.

He added that the ceiling area of Terminal 3 is equivalent to 16 football fields, supported by 16 giant columns, making it the largest indoor space in Taiwan. The roof's drainage piping alone spans approximately 10 kilometers.

Chen emphasized that Terminal 3 will feature a large number of self-service check-in counters, differing from the traditional manned counters passengers are accustomed to. Meanwhile, the length of manned counters will increase by 60% to 70% compared to Terminals 1 and 2, allowing passengers to arrive early and check baggage in advance. Eighteen large elevators will also be installed.

He also mentioned that Terminal 3 will feature RGB lighting capable of emitting red, green, and blue light, which will illuminate the ceiling and create dynamic color-changing effects.

Taoyuan Airport补充 that the self-check-in counter ratio at Terminal 3 will rise to nearly 50%, and compared to Terminals 1 and 2, the main terminal will include five boarding gates for small aircraft.

Chen stated that Terminal 3 will be unveiled to the public by the end of next year, offering travelers a brand-new airport experience.

He added that the proportion of transfer passengers from Southeast Asia to North America via Taoyuan Airport is already approaching 20%, positioning it as an Asian aviation hub. With Terminal 3's completion, overall transportation volume, flight frequencies, and route networks will expand, and cargo operations will remain robust.

Fan Hsiao-lun, General Manager of Taoyuan International Airport Corporation, said that three domestic airlines will primarily operate from Terminal 3. Discussions with these carriers have been held regarding terminal configuration, focusing on North American, Southeast Asian, and other international routes for future operations.

Taoyuan Airport noted that the North Concourse of Terminal 3 was already inaugurated on December 25, 2025. The main terminal structure completed topping-out and glass curtain wall installation in the first half of 2026, with full-scale interior finishing works commencing in the second half.
