Central News Agency Report

(CNA reporter Li Hui-ting, Pingtung County, June 16) Pingtung Datong High School's power distribution equipment failed yesterday due to continuous heavy rainfall, leaving the school without electricity until this morning. The school stated that classes proceeded as scheduled in the morning and power was restored by noon after emergency repairs. Nearby residents affected by the same incident had their power restored by Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) yesterday.

Datong High School explained today that around 3 p.m. yesterday, the switch in the school's power distribution system malfunctioned due to prolonged rain, causing a campus-wide blackout. Morning classes were held as normal today. Out of the school's 34 classes, some temporarily moved outdoors due to course requirements and insufficient lighting.

According to Datong High School, external contractors and Taipower conducted emergency repairs, successfully restoring power and resuming electricity supply before noon today.

The Pingtung District Office of Taipower explained that at around 3 p.m. yesterday, a faulty switch in the Datong power distribution system caused an outage affecting 1,085 households in areas including Shengli Road, Lanzhou Street, Chongan Street, and Datong North Road in Pingtung City. Additional personnel were deployed to isolate and repair the fault, restoring power to all affected households within 20 minutes. (Editor: Chang Ya-ching) 1150616
