(Central News Agency reporter Yang Yao-ru, Taipei, April 16) China and Nepal's foreign ministers held talks affirming the 'One China Principle.' Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) today reiterated that the two sides of the Taiwan Strait are not subordinate to each other and warned Nepal's new government to recognize early on that China's expansionist agenda, including its use of the 'One China Principle' to undermine peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, is harmful and brings no benefit to Nepal.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Nepal's Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal on the 15th. According to a press release from China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi expressed appreciation for Nepal's adherence to the 'One China Principle,' while Khanal stated that the Taiwan issue is China's internal affair and affirmed Nepal's commitment to the 'One China Policy.'

In an afternoon press statement, Taiwan's MOFA issued a stern rebuttal and condemnation, reiterating that the Republic of China (Taiwan) is a sovereign state and is not subordinate to the People's Republic of China. It emphasized that any attempt to diminish Taiwan's sovereign status through false narratives cannot alter this indisputable fact.

MOFA also issued a serious warning to Nepal's new government, urging it to seriously recognize China's long-standing threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait—a matter critical to Nepal's own security and prosperity, as well as to global stability. It further urged Nepal to recognize early on China's expansionist practices across various regions and countries, including its use of undemocratic and poorly governed tactics that have driven many nations into debt traps, as well as its persecution of ethnic minorities and suppression of religious freedom. Therefore, aligning with China's 'One China Principle,' which undermines peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, would bring only harm and no benefit to Nepal.

MOFA reiterated that Taiwan is willing to continue cooperating with all nations that support freedom, democracy, and human rights to jointly safeguard peace and security in the Taiwan Strait and uphold freedom and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. (Editor: Tsai Szu-chia) 1150616
