(Central News Agency, Tokyo, June 16 — International News Summary) Japanese electronics manufacturer Fujitsu announced today that its Chairman, Hidetane Furuta, has resigned due to inappropriate conduct toward women. However, Fujitsu did not disclose specific details of the incident.

According to Kyodo News, Fujitsu had planned to consult on reappointing Furuta as a director during its shareholder meeting scheduled for the 19th of this month, but the company has now withdrawn that proposal.

Fujitsu stated that it received information on the matter this month and, after conducting an internal investigation, confirmed that Furuta had engaged in inappropriate behavior. Furuta subsequently submitted his resignation and withdrew his candidacy for director at the shareholder meeting.

Today, Fujitsu held a board meeting and approved Furuta's resignation. The successor to the chairman position has not yet been determined, and the role remains vacant for now.

According to the "Nikkei" newspaper, Furuta, currently 67 years old, joined Fujitsu in 1982. He has held key positions including Chief Technology Officer (CTO), was elected as a director in 2019, and assumed the role of chairman in 2024.

Furuta currently also serves as Japan's representative on the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Advisory Council (ABAC) and as Vice President of the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA). (Translation: Yang Weijing) 1150616
