Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che announced today the official launch of the city's new Yellow Taxi Bus routes—Red 5 and Red 15—extending service coverage to South District, Rende District, East District, and Guanmiao District, significantly improving accessibility for residents' medical visits, commuting, and administrative tasks.
Mayor Huang emphasized that due to Tainan's vast geographical area, large buses often cannot reach narrow community alleys. The Yellow Taxi Bus, combining mobility and comfort, delivers taxi-level service at regular bus fares, earning widespread popularity among citizens.
He added that the Red 5 route connects Xishu, Wanli, and Rende, and introduces a 9-seater vehicle model. Compared to the previous 4- to 5-seater models, this allows for higher passenger capacity, better meeting urban transport demands and helping alleviate the shortage of bus drivers, thereby enhancing overall public transportation efficiency.
According to the Tainan City Government Transportation Bureau, the Red 5 route, running from 'Labor Housing to Municipal Hospital,' links Xishu and Wanli in South District, and Dajia, Erxing, and Baoan Villages in Rende District. The route passes through Baoan Railway Station and Tainan Municipal Hospital, facilitating medical access and railway transfers for residents.
The Red 15 route, 'Guanmiao Transfer Station to Tangshan Camp Area,' connects the Army Artillery Training Command, Wujia Elementary School, Wujia Park, Shanxi Temple, Xinpu Lotus Pond, and surrounding communities. This enhances transportation services in Guanmiao and allows transfers at Guanmiao Transfer Station to Red Trunk Line, Red 10, and Red 14 for access to downtown, Chi Mei Hospital in Yongkang, and THSR Tainan Station.
The Transportation Bureau stated that in addition to fixed schedules, both Red 5 and Red 15 offer on-demand pickup services within a 1-kilometer radius of designated stops. Fares are equivalent to regular bus fares. Senior citizen and爱心 (love care) cardholders ride free, while electronic payment users enjoy an 8-kilometer free fare for basic trips.
