Central News Agency Report

(Central News Agency reporter Kuan Jui-Ping, Miaoli County, June 16) — A vehicle fire occurred this evening on National Highway 1 northbound in the Sanyi section of Miaoli County. The cab of a tanker truck caught fire for unknown reasons. Firefighters responded immediately upon receiving the alert and conducted suppression operations. No personnel were trapped or injured at the scene. Due to the incident occurring during the evening commute, traffic backed up as far as 2 kilometers.

The Miaoli County Fire Department received the emergency call at 4:46 p.m., reporting a large truck on fire at the 153.1-kilometer mark of National Highway 1 northbound in Sanyi. Upon arrival, crews from the Sanyi and Miaoli detachments found flames and thick smoke erupting from the cab of the large tanker truck. No injuries or entrapments were reported. The Houli detachment of Taichung City Fire Department also arrived to assist in extinguishing the fire.

Motorists passing the area witnessed the tanker’s cab fully engulfed in flames with dense smoke rising into the sky, describing the scene as terrifying and exclaiming, "So dangerous!" The incident blocked the outer lane, and combined with peak commuting hours, caused traffic to back up approximately 2 kilometers. After the fire was extinguished, traffic flow has gradually resumed.
