(Taipei, June 16 — Reporter Hsieh Yi-Hsuan) Taiwan Sugar Company convened its 115th annual general meeting today. For the previous year, the company reported operating revenue of NT$31.627 billion and operating profit of NT$4.698 billion, exceeding statutory budgets by NT$891 million and NT$2.548 billion respectively, achieving its financial targets. The meeting approved the distribution of surplus earnings for 2024, with a cash dividend of NT$1.30 per share, and completed the election of the 37th board of directors.
In a press release, Taiwan Sugar stated that despite challenges such as U.S. reciprocal tariffs and shifting domestic market conditions, the company adjusted its strategies and advanced various operations, driving steady growth in revenue and profitability.
Regarding net-zero carbon emissions, Taiwan Sugar reported that by the end of 2024, it had installed 554.06 MW of solar photovoltaic capacity. A total of 102 charging guns have been deployed across its network of gas stations. The company is actively collaborating with public and private sectors on forest and soil carbon sequestration projects, deepening its carbon management framework. Additionally, both the Hufei and Shanhua sugar factories have obtained renewable energy certificates, with an estimated annual output of approximately 8,500 certificates, contributing momentum to Taiwan’s green energy transition.
Taiwan Sugar highlighted a fruitful year of operational achievements, receiving multiple honors including the TCSA and TSAA Sustainability Awards, 11 accolades at the International Orchid Show, eco-friendly certification for the Liu Ying Jian Shan Pi Resort, and three ESG for Culture awards for sugar industry heritage preservation. Its self-developed next-generation Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea (PED) vaccine, recognized for its technological breakthrough and industrial application value, received the National Innovation Award.
The company emphasized its commitment to industry-academia-government-research collaboration to strengthen industrial competitiveness and talent development. In the past year, it signed memoranda of understanding with National Chiayi University, National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism, Ling Tung University, and the National Central Library to enhance cross-sector linkages and cultivate diverse talent.
In the area of high-value agricultural and livestock resources, Taiwan Sugar has partnered with the Plastic Industry Development Center, National Atomic Energy Science and Technology Institute (NAER), Naisi Company, U.S. Grains Council, and Taisugar to promote cross-domain technological cooperation, advancing circular economy and green innovation applications.
This year marks Taiwan Sugar’s 80th anniversary. The company hosted a large-scale employee event called 'Da Tang Sheng Shi' (Grand Sugar Celebration), where staff formed characters in unison. It also published a commemorative journal, launched promotional campaigns, and collaborated with Tainan’s cultural brand Lin Department Store to create a special shareholders’ gift. Titled 'A Bag of Tainan’s Old-Flavored Delights,' the gift features Lin Department Store’s iconic kaba cloth tote bag, containing Guanmiao wave noodles from Lin Hao Market, Taisugar’s black sugar,安心豚瓜仔肉醬 canned meat, and pineapple canned goods. This blend of local flavors and cultural design reflects Taiwan Sugar’s brand spirit of deep-rooted commitment to local culture.
According to the press release, the 37th board of directors includes Wu Ming-Chang, Lin Pi-Yu, Yu Cheng-Hsien, Tseng Tzu-Feng, Li Fan-Yi, Hu Chung-I, Chao Ching-Hui, Yin Feng-Lan, Hsu Ta-Yu, Huang Tung-Yuan, Hu Yi-Min, An-Chun Investment Co., Ltd., and independent directors Lai Ting-Ting, Tang Jui-Ko, and Chang Kuei-Feng.
