Taichung National歌劇院 Summer FUN Time: 6 Domestic and International Musical Performances

Taichung National歌劇院's 'Summer FUN Time' has established itself as a classic musical brand, and this year presents six outstanding domestic and international productions, including 'Preaching Sisters' and 'That Day, the Rainbow Appeared.' The legendary Stephen Sondheim's masterpiece 'COMPANY' will be exclusively performed in Taichung.

Taichung National歌劇院 announced today that Stephen Sondheim's iconic musical 'COMPANY' will kick off the summer series. The production explores themes of love, marriage, commitment, and loneliness, confronting the urban emotional state of 'desiring connection yet fearing entrapment.' Directed by renowned Japanese director Miyamoto Amon, the show brings together 14 leading actors from Taiwan and Hong Kong for a limited four-performance run exclusively in Taichung.

The hit Korean webcomic-turned-musical 'Youth of May' makes its Taiwan debut, produced by Seoul Arts Group, telling the intergenerational friendship between 70-year-old retired postman Shin Deok-chul and ballet prodigy Lee Chae-rok.

From Taiwan, the phenomenon musical 'Preaching Sisters' returns triumphantly, selling out instantly once again. The major production from Miaoli Performing Arts Center, Hakka pop musical 'That Day, the Rainbow Appeared,' is co-created by golden director Liang Chih-min and music director Chen Kuo-hua, starring Kuo Tzu-chien, Kuan Ling-chih, and Angus Ni. Set against the mining history of Chuxiakeng in Gongguan, Miaoli, it tells a heart-wrenching story of rediscovering family memory and cross-generational bonds.

Beloved by young audiences, Hao Xiao Pai Yan returns to the歌劇院 with its first musical, 'Don't Call Me Successful: The Prodigal Son Returns from the Art World,' using wordplay and dark humor to satirize theater life and society. Resident artist Huang Chien-hao's one-man rock musical 'The Storyteller' features a reading concert where he plays multiple roles, blending rock music with bardic storytelling to explore the blurred lines between art and politics.

Broadway legend 'COMPANY' will be performed from July 10 to 12 at the Grand Theater. Miaoli's Hakka pop musical 'That Day, the Rainbow Appeared' will run from July 18 to 19 at the Medium Theater. The Korean musical 'Youth of May' will be staged from July 25 to 26 at the Medium Theater.

Resident artist Huang Chien-hao's 'The Storyteller' reading concert will be held on August 1 at Corner Salon. 'Don't Call Me Successful: The Prodigal Son Returns from the Art World' will be performed from August 28 to 30 at the Medium Theater.
