(Central News reporter Luo Weijia, Jakarta, June 16) To attract younger generations to visit museums and cultural heritage sites in Indonesia, the Indonesian Heritage Agency under the Ministry of Culture launched the 'Museum Passport' today. This passport allows visitors to collect exclusive stamps when touring museums and heritage sites across the country, enhancing interactivity and personalizing the visitor experience.
The 'Museum Passport' was jointly developed by the Indonesian Heritage Agency (under the Ministry of Culture), Indonesian specialty paper importer Paperina, and graphic design firm Octodesign. It is part of this year's commemorative activities for International Museum Day in Indonesia.
According to official information, the passport is designed to resemble a travel passport, featuring a map of museum locations across Indonesia to help tourists plan cultural travel routes. Inside pages include free admission tickets valid at 16 museums managed by the Indonesian Heritage Agency, including the National Museum and National Gallery in Jakarta.
Indonesian Minister of Culture Fadli Zon recently told local media that in the digital age, younger generations need tangible cultural objects like the 'Museum Passport' to build physical cultural collections. He noted that similar cultural passport or card systems exist in countries such as Germany, Singapore, and the Netherlands, and emphasized that Indonesia's initiative is innovative and helps bridge the gap between Gen Z and cultural heritage.
Indira Estiyanti Nurjadin, Head of Public Services at the Indonesian Heritage Agency, explained that the agency hopes collecting travel stamps will encourage young people to view museum visits as a cultural lifestyle. She emphasized that museums serve as spaces connecting the past and future, tradition and innovation, fostering mutual understanding and tolerance among diverse perspectives.
To commemorate the Indonesian Heritage Agency's 4th anniversary, the passport is being offered at a promotional price of 81,000 Indonesian rupiah (approximately NT$144), valid until the 30th. After that, it will return to the regular price of 89,000 rupiah (approximately NT$158). The passport is available at gift shops in affiliated museums, selected outlets of the Indonesian bookstore chain Gramedia, and its online bookstore. (Edited by Zhang Zhixuan) 1150616
